Manupatra All India Essay Competition 2010

The Manupatra All India Essay Competition endeavors to encourage and promote creative thinking and knowledge of legal understanding and research amongst the students.

The competition is intended to be an award for cogency & novelty of thinking on issues of contemporary relevance.

The aim of this initiative is,

To develop and improve written communication skills and expression of critical thinking in law as a multidisciplinary subject.
To raise socio-legal awareness amongst the students and to highlight the evolving and emerging areas of law in its interdisciplinary perspective.
To stimulate young minds into good utilization of modern information technologies.
Contestant must be a full-time law student in any degree college / law school in India, Bangladesh, Srilanka & Pakistan.
Five Year Law Course
Category A – First Year Students
Category B – Second Year Students
Category C – Third Year Students
Category D – Fourth & Fifth Year Students
For 3 Year Law Course After Graduation
Category C – 1 Year student
Category D – 2 & 3 Year Students
The medium of essay should be ENGLISH.
Submission Procedure:
• The essay must be typewritten and double spaced on A4 sized white paper with numbered pages.

• The extent should be maximum 3000 words.

• The essay must be accompanied with an abstract containing the title and a brief synopsis of the essay along with
the word count of the essay.

Last Date:
All essays should reach Manupatra by 31stJuly 2010. Essays received after this date will not be considered.


All papers must be original, unpublished and undistributed materials. The committee recommends that the contestants structure the essays with a clear introduction and a conclusion summarizing the main points and the direction for further exploration. Extensive footnoting and end noting is discouraged. However, the contestants should give a select bibliography of the sources referred to in the essay.

Selection Procedure:

There are 4 different categories. Essays will be evaluated in each category.

Essays will be judged on the basis of its content, clarity and originality. The quality of analysis, thoroughness of research, will be considered in its comprehensiveness. Other aspects of quality such as coherence, style, organization, spelling and grammatical perfection will be other parameters of evaluation.

The entries will be judged by a committee of leading law academicians, jurists, and law practitioners from across the world. The committee is free to determine its own method and system of analysing and judging the essays and has absolute discretion of selecting the essays. The decision of the committee will be final.

A cover sheet must accompany the essay and contain the following details:
Name; Date of Birth; Address, Telephone Nos, Email , Name and Address of college/university, Student identification number/ Roll No , Course, Academic Year.

The name and identity of the contestant is not to be mentioned anywhere within the text of the essay.

Entry Procedure:
• Only one entry is allowed per student.

• No joint entries are allowed. i.e two or more students together cannot author an essay.

• All essays received in the competition become the property of Manupatra Information Solutions P Ltd, which reserves
the right to publish the essays in any form-electronic or print.

• The contestants by entering in the contest give Manupatra the right to publicise the winning entries without any royalty
or compensation.

• The contestants by entering in the contest agree to indemnify Manupatra from and against all claims, suits, and
damages based on any claim of copyright infringement or plagiarism or unauthorized use.

• Neither Manupatra nor the committee will be responsible for any condition beyond its control that may cause the
contest to be interrupted.

Announcement of Winners

The winners will be intimated through the college authorities. Their names will also be announced in the corresponding issue of the "Manupatra E-zine".
